What AWS said

The pricing page says "Reservation prices are updated regularly based on trends in supply and demand for EC2 Capacity Blocks." It now says "The current prices are scheduled to be updated next in January, 2027." The page says "The reservation fee is charged up front at the time you schedule the reservation." It adds "Your Capacity Block is charged at the prevailing rate at the time of purchase, even if the Capacity Block is scheduled to start after the price is updated."

Who it hits and when

Anyone who books a new Capacity Block pays the rate on the page at purchase. A block bought before an update keeps the rate it was bought at, by the AWS wording above. By the archived copies, the updates landed between December 24, 2025 and January 3, 2026, between March 31 and April 15, 2026, between July 4 and August 25, 2026, and between October 1 and October 10, 2026. The next scheduled update is in January, 2027.

What to do before your next booking

  1. Check the rate for your instance and region on the AWS page before you book.
  2. If you plan GPU work for early 2027, book before the January, 2027 update. The new rate could go up or down.
  3. Compare p5.48xlarge and p5e.48xlarge per accelerator. The gap changed with each update.
  4. Compare On-Demand and Savings Plans prices for long runs.

What we withhold

We publish US East (Ohio) rates. Other regions list their own rates, and some match. We do not publish p6-b300, UltraServer, or Trainium2 history, because we did not compare them across every update. We do not publish the exact day of each update. We give the window between archived copies.
