What Microsoft said

Microsoft said it is "increasing the prices of Microsoft 365 Personal and Family in the US for the first time since its release by $3 USD per month." On timing, the post says: "Existing subscribers won't experience the price increase until their next renewal."

The post names a way out: "Existing subscribers with recurring billing enabled with Microsoft can switch to plans without Copilot or AI credits like our Basic plan, or, for a limited time, to new Personal Classic or Family Classic plans."

Who it hits and when

What to do before your renewal

  1. Check your plan and renewal date in your Microsoft account under Services and subscriptions.
  2. If you do not use Copilot, compare your plan with Personal Classic or Family Classic, if your account offers them, or with the Basic plan.
  3. If you pay month to month, compare the yearly price. On Family, yearly billing costs $25.89 less a year at the new prices.
