GitHub Copilot pricing change 2026: usage-based AI Credits from June 1, plan prices stay at $10 and $39
GitHub moved Copilot to usage-based billing on June 1, 2026. Premium request units were replaced by GitHub AI Credits. The plan prices did not change. Copilot Pro is $10 a month, Pro+ $39 a month, Business $19 per user a month, and Enterprise $39 per user a month. GitHub added a Max plan at $100 a month. What changed is how far each plan goes. What GitHub said
On April 27, 2026 GitHub wrote "Base plan pricing is not changing. Copilot Pro remains $10/month, Pro+ remains $39/month, Business remains $19/user/month, and Enterprise remains $39/user/month." From June 1, it wrote, "premium request units (PRUs) will be replaced by GitHub AI Credits." It said credits "will be consumed based on token usage, including input, output, and cached tokens, according to the published API rates for each model."
On May 12, 2026 GitHub wrote "Pro and Pro+ will include more total usage at the same price through a new flex allotment, and we're introducing Max, a new plan for sustained, high-volume Copilot work."
Who it hits and when
"Users on a monthly Pro or Pro+ plan will automatically migrate to usage-based billing on June 1, 2026." Annual Pro and Pro+ users stay on premium request pricing until the plan expires. GitHub wrote "Model multipliers will increase on June 1 (see table) for annual plan subscribers only." At expiry they move to Copilot Free with the option to upgrade.
Business and Enterprise keep their seat prices. For June, July, and August 2026, GitHub gave existing customers promotional included usage of $30 in monthly AI Credits on Business and $70 on Enterprise. That promotion covered those three months. Heavy users of large models burn credits faster, so the same seat can cost more if you buy extra usage.
What to do before your next bill
- Check your AI Credits usage in your GitHub billing settings.
- Set a budget so extra usage stops where you want it.
- Compare Pro+ at $39 a month with Max at $100 a month if you run out of credits each month.
- On an annual plan, check your expiry date. You move to usage-based billing after it.
- Read GitHub pricing per user and the GitHub Actions price change for the rest of your GitHub bill.
What we withhold
We do not publish per model credit rates or the annual plan multiplier table. They depend on the model, and GitHub can change them. Check the GitHub Docs for the current rates.
